OIC Goes to Davao
With the theme: “Resting in Jesus through Silence and Solitude”, the Odyssey in Christ Team (OIC) from the USA headed by Dr. Larry Hinkle, came to Davao to conduct a retreat for Mindanao Pastors and Leaders at the Missionaries of the Immaculate Conception (MIC) Retreat House in Davao City last August 30 to September 1, 2019. Assisting Dr. Larry were Gracie Johnson, Tom Fallon and Dr. Rey Taniajura, who took turns facilitating the activity for the 28 attendees of which half of the participants were from Bukidnon, Central Mindanao, 4 were from Tagum City, a couple from Kidapawan City, 6 were from Davao City, and 2 from the Visayas Regions.
Most of the participants were first-timers to an OIC Retreat but clearly, they were very comfortable with the processes so that aside from fellowshipping, the group had been through a wholesome experience of knowing Jesus in a deeper way as well as how to truly find rest in him through silence and solitude which was the goal of the said activity. Although retreats were usually expected to be very sober and thoughtful, the participants understood very well that resting in Jesus does not necessarily remove from us the fun and humor especially during the activity on creative expressions where everyone enjoyed being like little children again which gave us a hearty good laugh – a true revelation that we are freely human after all.
The activity was so inspiring and no doubt the participants went back to their respective areas refreshed and ready to do ministry feeling assured that in Jesus there is truly a solace where everyone can find real rest. Thank you OIC Team for coming and to GCI Davao for hosting a successful event.
